Coil Building

Using a process called Coil building I designed and created a ceramic vase, using different shapes and coils. I fixed the pieces together using a paint brush and a small amount of water, just to hold them into place. I wanted my creation to be unusual and a one off. I stayed with the theme of shells by using spiral shaped circles to go around the edge of my vase and to make it look appealing. I like how the coils are weaved into each other to create this unbalanced edge. I designed my work to look different from what other vases look like. This piece will be fired and glazed and presented as one my final outcomes.

Screen Printing

Screen Print 1&2
Oil Inks
Blue and Red

I made prints using the pattern from my jacket and then using a process called Screen-printing to create these prints of a face. I wanted to ignore the facial features and just go with the blank face. This image shows positive a negative mark making and I want to show how a face can be seen without all the other features. I used red and blue because they are strong colours and you can see them anywhere. There is some marks on my print which I have left some paint behind, but it makes a good final piece with the paint marks left. I think the blue is stronger, but they both have the same quality. Focusing on the theme of pattern I looked at Sylvia Js work and made me look into the figure of other people.

Portrait Pattern

Using Pattern from my own clothes, I made an outline of the back of my body from a photograph I took from my phone and transferred it onto paper. I then printed off a second A3 paper, but this time using the pattern from my jacket. What I wanted was to get the outline of the portrait, not the detail because I wanted the pattern to be the main part of this piece, and have a positive final outcome. I used black paper to contrast the red so that it stands out from the black to make this more of a stronger piece of work.
